Marc Children's Services provides early intervention and
support services to children with developmental delays
ranging in age from birth to three. Early Intervention services are
designed to help children participate as active members of their families
and communities. Since Marc works on the priorities that families identify,
Marc's Early Intervention staff goes to the places where family activities
occur. You can find Marc's teachers and therapists helping children in
their homes, at their child-care programs and in in other community places such
as playgrounds, grocery stores, doctors' offices, libraries and malls.
Siblings of
children with developmental needs are often forgotten in most early intervention
settings.
At Marc, the questions, confusion and feelings that many siblings of
children with developmental delays often experience are not forgotten. Marc has
created groups just for siblings so they can have their own special time.
Sometimes mom and dad need their own special time too! That’s why Marc offers
parent-support groups. Parents can get together to discuss concerns, share
stories or plan events.

A
Parent Primer on Special Education Acronyms,
Abbreviations, and Definitions
As you participate in the special education process, you
will also encounter an unfamiliar language. The language is often referred to as
“acronyms.” It may seem like a foreign language, but it is really just a
language of initials. Often, during
meetings, many of these acronyms are used frequently, and it is assumed that
everyone is familiar with the meaning. This booklet (see link below) has been
designed to provide the common acronyms and give the definitions of these
special education terms.
